CORRECTIONAL OFFICER TRAINEE

This announcement will be used to fill current and future vacancies in Lovelock and the Carson City area

Correctional Officers maintain and supervise inmates in state Correctional facilities in a controlled humane environment. This position may be at a Maximum Security Prison

To Qualify
Education and Experience
1)High school graduation or equivalent education and two years of work experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Special Notes
1)An Associate's Degree in corrections, criminal justice, or a closely related field may be substituted for six months of the required journey level experience.
Special Requirements
1)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be available to work any post/shift assignment.
2)A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant.
3)Applicants must meet current Peace Officer Standard & Training (P.O.S.T.) requirements as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.
4)Pursuant to NRS 284.4066, this position has been identified as affecting public safety. Persons offered employment in this position must submit to a pre-employment screening for controlled substances.
5)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been convicted of a DUI/DWI within seven years of their written application; or convicted of 2 or more DUI/DWI within their lifetime.
6)A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required.
7)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been terminated for cause (due to a conduct-related situation) from a department of local, state, or federal government.
8)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint an applicant for employment if they have been discharged from military service other than honorably.
9)Pass a strict annual physical examination in accordance with the provisions of the Heart/Lung Bills.
10)Must be a US citizen and 21 years of age at time of appointment.
11)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of a felony in this State or of any offense, which would be a felony if committed in this state.
12)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of any offense involving the illegal sale or manufacture of controlled substances.
13)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have been convicted of domestic violence.
14)The Nevada Department of Corrections will not appoint a person to a law enforcement position if they have used any illegal controlled substance within one year of the date of application including prescription drugs not prescribed to them.
15)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be willing to work overtime on short notice, as well as weekends and holidays.
16)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be willing to be recalled on short notice, as well as weekends and holidays.
17)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be willing to be placed on stand-by status if necessary.
18)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must be willing to work variable schedules that may include 8, 10 or 12 hour shifts.
19)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must pass all phases of orientation training.
20)As a condition of appointment and continuing employment, must possess a valid driver's license.
 
Examination
NOTE: As part of the selection process, the Nevada Department of Corrections will conduct:
1) POST physical fitness test which consists of a vertical jump of 15 inches, Agility run in 20.4 seconds, 20 push-ups (not timed), a 300 meter run in one minute fourteen seconds, and a 1.5 mile run/walk in 17 minutes 37 seconds.
2) Extensive background investigation.
3) Drug test
4) Medical Physical examination
5) Psychological examination
6) Correctional Officer Structured Interview
Correctional Officer Trainee
The exam will consist of a written weighted 100%.

Qualified applicants will be contacted by the hiring agency for interview.
